Long term employee Barry Few cuts the ribbon to open the new Domino facility

As its Digital Printing division continues to grow rapidly, Domino Printing Sciences has decided to invest in a new 3,500 sqm facility at its UK headquarters in Bar Hill, near Cambridge. This was unveiled at the end of February at a ribbon cutting ceremony, which also saw presentations from the management and press demonstrations.

The company has been supplying the labelling sector for over 30 years and is one of the three main players in the coding and marking sector, which still brings in 88% of its annual turnover. This, however, is set to change following a number of significant investments in the digital colour label business, including the launch of the N600i inkjet press in 2012, closely followed by the N610i press in 2013 as well as a doubling of the number of staff in the division in the last three years.

Group managing director, Nigel Bond, said, ‘The digital label printing business was the next logical step for Domino. Inkjet technology is our core business, and as digital printing and packaging come closer together, we can use our competence to position ourselves in this sweetspot. We believe in product leadership so we are putting a lot of investment into this sector.’

The new facility includes a 500 sqm demonstration centre which will also be used for training, development and testing. The company is also looking at other opportunities for employing its technology and promises that there are new acquisitions on the horizon.
