Next year is going to be a big year for the industry.
While 2019 has been a landmark year for many, as you can read throughout this issue, the next 12 months are set to see digital package printing markets accelerate and take off in new directions.
drupa 2020 will of course be a major driver for this, with manufacturers marking it in their diaries as the target for new product development and upgrades. Printers and converters also have it in their diaries as they look to keep their business at the front of the industry and serve the evolving needs of their customers.
Sustainability will remain a hot topic, and while it has undoubtedly rapidly progressed from a buzzword to a core consideration, it will be interesting to see how the industry continues to respond.
I have come to refer to many of the responses further up the supply chain as ‘packwashing’, a bastardisation of the term ‘greenwashing’, owing to the race to vilify plastics and wash hands of it. It is important that the B2B community is aware of the unintended consequences that might result from this, and the often noble actions being pursued.
