An HP Indigo 30000 digital press forms a central part of the set up for the company
Realising the need for eco-friendly packaging solutions in the wake of the Blue Planet revelations about plastics in the oceans, a group of experienced packaging professionals has come together to form Transcend Packaging. The new company has already landed a major contract to supply paper straws to McDonald’s when the fast food giant replaces all its plastic straws this coming September.
Established in 2017 with support from the Welsh government, Transcend aims to provide sustainable packaging solutions across a broad range of products from paper straws to folding cartons. The management team, which includes Lorenzo Angelucci, Mark Varney, Jason Short and Ian Bates, has over 100+ years of collective experience in the industry from several UK and international packaging companies. Its manufacturing facility in South Wales will start production this summer and includes a new HP Indigo 30000 digital press.
Dr Angelucci, managing director, said, ‘We founded Transcend Packaging because we aspire to help companies become more sustainable.’ Commenting specifically on the digital press investment, Mr Short, business development director, added, ‘Digital print plays a big part of our strategy for the future. The market is showing signs of moving towards digital print and all it has to offer. Speed to market and hitting launch dates for brand owners become much easier and shorter with a digital press.’
