The HP PageWide T1100S pre-print liner press
As part of a major investment programme in Germany, DS Smith is installing an HP PageWide T1100S press. This is the second of this digital corrugated pre-print machine for the group, following the first installation at the Featherstone site in the UK.
The company is investing a total of some €15 million in the printing press, which measures 40 metres in length and 5 metres in height. It is currently being installed at its Fulda site in Germany, from where it will also serve adjacent European plants to supply products to customers throughout Europe.
Per Vinge Frederiksen, DS Smith managing director for the Germany and Switzerland region, commented, ‘We’re committed to boosting our customers’ turnover, reducing their costs and minimising risks. Investment in this revolutionary digital printing technology will help us to achieve these goals in the future and add value for our customers.’
‘Displays that differ from region to region or are individualised for different distributors, are now easy to implement; so is personalised packaging,’ added Stefan Kunzmann, sales and marketing director for the region. ‘Since ink coverage rather than the number of colours is decisive, packaging that used to be provided with monochrome print, can now be printed in colour.’
He continued, ‘The new printing method also enables us to implement track & trace technologies, ie traceability of products, as well as serialisation and anti-counterfeiting technologies to ensure protection against product piracy. This is how we help our customers to boost their turnover and to minimise risks.’
The official unveiling of the new pre-print machine is scheduled for the second quarter of 2018.
