Volodymyr Drabyk, general director of EKKO
Durst has secured its first sale of a Tau 330 in Ukraine. The UV inkjet press has been installed at EKKO, one of the country’s biggest label companies.
Celebrating its 25th anniversary in 2017, EKKO describes itself as the “oldest company” in the independent Ukraine. From five people at the start, more than 80 staff are now employed at the €2million turnover company.
The Tau 330 platform at EKKO features a 330mm print width, five colours (CMYK+W) and offers printing speeds of up to 48m/min, in up to 1260 dpi print resolution.
‘Digital printing is a good investment and can complement and help flexo and screen business grow,’ said Volodymyr Drabyk, general director of EKKO. ‘Our digital business at the moment is around 5% of the total, and with this investment in the Durst Tau 330, it will be around 20-30% of our work in five years. However, it is difficult to predict accurately because of the political and economic uncertainties.’
He continued, ‘We have already helped our customers grow together with Durst. As an example, a new producer of stewed vegetables and fruit products in Ukraine with a wide product range couldn’t guarantee big volumes at the beginning as they didn’t know whether it would be successful. So they started the process digitally, entered the marked and start to grow and widen their product range. The Durst allows us to launch potential big products at low cost and no risk.’
