The Mark Andy Digital One at Blair Labelling

Colorado-based Blair Labeling has made its first foray into digital printing with the installation of a Mark Andy Digital One hybrid press.

The family-owned pressure sensitive label converter purchased the press at Labelexpo Americas 2016, and the Digital One was installed at Blair’s Denver facility last December.

‘Our customers kept requesting low volume, high mix work, which made adding digital printing to our business a no-brainer,’ explained Lourdes Solis, CEO. ‘We saw an opportunity to better serve our customers with the newest technology on the market.’

Since the December installation, the digital press has been running 1-2 shifts per day to alleviate strain and prevent delays/cost implications caused by maintenance on flexographic equipment also acquired through Mark Andy.

‘Overtime is non-existent, sales are up, and plate spend is down 18%,’ commented Marco De La Vega, accountant at Blair Labeling.

‘Saying we have digital capability has opened so many doors,’ added Mr De La Vega. ‘Top it off with the fact Digital One is a hybrid backed by Mark Andy and both our employees and prospects were sold.’

Blair expects to add another digital asset to its portfolio by the end of 2018.
