The Xeikon Folding Carton Suite
Finnish packaging printer Jaakkoo-Taara Oy has invested in Xeikon’s Folding Carton Suite, adding digital capabilities to its existing offset and flexo production.
The specialist in the pharmaceutical, healthcare and food industries has installed a Xeikon 3500 digital press to offer added value in the form of serialisation and personalisation as well as security features to its customers.
Founded in 1935, Jaakkoo-Taara employs 115 people and its annual turnover is €16.5 million. Managing director Thomas Brusila said, ‘We wanted to produce high print quality combined with increased efficiency and the ability to produce both cartons and labels. The new system will enable us to introduce serialised pharmaceutical packaging, and personalised packaging and labels. With digital we can also easily produce security and tamper evident features and we think we will be able to add value by offering that.’
The suite offers a basic press configuration equipped with a fifth colour station in combination with CMYK. Colour management is done through Xeikon’s cloud-based Colour Control system.
Mr Brusila commented, ‘We liked the fact it gave us the possibility to introduce a highly automated digital workflow that will enable us to increase our output efficiency. We can reduce errors and be faster and better. Streamlining production allows us to have a more collaborative approach and we can also be more flexible with how we work with our customers.’
