Xeikon’s new LDU running inline with a 3030 press at Labelexpo Americas

In a world premiere, Xeikon launched a laser die-cutting (LDU) unit, which it showed running inline with the entry-level 3030 press at Labelexpo Americas.

Initially developed and available for lower press speeds, the LDU can be upgraded by adding another laser to the cutter. It has a web width of up to 330 mm and can handle materials from both conventional or other digital presses, including PP, silver PP and PET.

The LDU varnishes, laser die-cuts, slits and rewinds, enabling job changeovers with limited or no set-up time. The laser station can kiss cut and perforate.

Jeroen van Bauwel, director product management, said, ‘This unit, in combination with the Xeikon 3030 and Xeikon Vectorizor, is the most perfect and flexible all-in-one solution for digital label printing and finishing. Its many uses range from supporting new clients establishing their services to web2print stores.’

The show was also the first introduction of Xeikon’s flatbed die-cut (FDU) machine which could be seen running in the Digital Finishing feature area.

Also for finishing inline, the Fusion modular digital technology was shown for the US market for the first time. This can be added to all Xeikon press models and is currently in beta testing with a Belgian customer using Fusion white for its health and beauty applications. Commercial availability is planned for 2017.
