Retail-ready packaging printed digitally by DS Smith

Utilising its digital print capabilities, DS Smith has produced retail-ready packaging (RRP) for Pots & Co, a supplier of Michelin-inspired individual desserts.

The dessert manufacturer was looking for a quick turnaround RRP solution that continued to meet all the current benefits of its existing pack – clear branding, easy to open and identify – which could be produced within a short time frame. DS Smith recommended printing the job on its HP T400 Simplex Color Inkjet Web Press.

Tony Foster, sales and marketing director of DS Smith’s UK packaging division, said, ‘When Pots & Co contacted us with this urgent request, we knew digital print was the perfect choice to meet their brief. It enabled us to fulfil the order in the limited time we had available, across all six flavours, without the time consuming need for artwork and platemaking.’

He continued, ‘Having the capability to offer digital print solutions, means we can provide our customers with the flexibility to change artwork at short notice, produce small or large runs, add brand messages to the packaging and link in with seasonal promotions. The benefits are substantial.’

The finished product printed on E flute board was a perfect match to the previous litho-printed pack and was produced in time to meet the deadline.

Julian Dyer, founder and CEO of Pots & Co, said, ‘With the fast-paced FMCG market, we often have to work to short deadlines. This has a ripple effect and often means we have to call on our suppliers to work to the same timescales. When we approached DS Smith with this crucial order, they worked hard to provide us with a solution that would meet our tight deadline. The pack met all our previous requirements in terms of quality and design but also met our deadline.’
