Suffolk-based Abbey Labels has taken delivery of its new Xeikon CX3 digital label press, which is the first full installation in the UK following a number of pilot sites.

The predominantly trade printer, which serves customers in the food, drink, retail, cosmetic, health care and chemical sectors, has seen substantial growth in its digital department over the last 24 months, having already installed another digital press this year.

Chairman Tom Allum said, ‘We are very proud to be the UK’s first full Xeikon CX3 installation. When we originally learned about the extra benefits and increased product range the press could offer our customers we immediately placed an order.’

The press uses ICE toner technology, which increases the range of substrates and materials that can be printed to heat sensitive substrates, such as PE substrates and thermal transfer labels. ‘The digital label market is starting to mature and we are finding more and more of our existing clients asking us for high quality digitally printed labels on various different materials,’ said Mr Allum.

Once the site acceptance tests have been completed, the press is due to be commissioned on 7 December 2015.
