Managing director Adrian Brown with the new inkjet press
Provider of self-adhesive labels to the cosmetics & personal care, beer, wines & spirits, and homecare markets, Olympus Print Group has recently added high-speed digital inkjet to its capabilities in the form of a Domino N610i press, which has been installed at its Leeds facility.
‘We had been looking for a few years for the right press to complement our flexo operation and we first came across the Domino in 2012 at Labelexpo Americas. However, at the time it didn’t have the white option, which along with resolution and speed, was one of our three main criteria,’ said managing director, Adrian Brown.
He continued, ‘We first started on the digital journey 10 years ago, but at the end of the day, it is just another printing press and the technology is irrelevant. We are looking for results so when Domino introduced the white at Labelexpo in 2013, and we knew the speed and reliability was there, it was time to invest.’
The N610i was installed in late August last year and has been in production since September. It is complemented by a Digicon 3 finishing line from AB Graphic International. Olympus has worked closely with Domino Printing Sciences to ensure maximum uptime, and Mr Brown said that he is very satisfied with the press. He commented, ‘From what we have seen in the market, we know we made the right decision. The N610i has taken some very difficult jobs and made them very easy to produce.’
Printing at a native resolution of 600 x 600 dpi, the N610i can be configured with four to seven colours and operates at speeds up to 75 m/min in ‘rapid mode’. The Kyocera printheads are precisely aligned using Domino’s i-Tech Stitchlink technology while the CleanCap automated cleaning of the heads ensures maximum productivity.
Stephen Hancock, Domino’s UK sales manager for digital colour, commented, ‘We are delighted that Olympus Print Group has decided to invest in our latest digital ink jet printing technology. Central to the appeal of the N610i is our opaque digital white ink, specifically formulated by Domino to run with the press. The ink delivers a silkscreen-like finish and provides high opacity. This was one of the key criteria that Adrian was looking for when buying a press, along with high speed and consistent print quality.’
