Cosmopack, held on 20-23 March in Bologna, Italy, will see Mimaki highlighting how efficient, high quality creasing and cutting on packaging board is made possible with Europe’s first showing of the new Mimaki CFL-605RT compact flatbed cutter. This flatbed cutter delivers cost-effective designs, smoothly and quickly, for short runs.

‘Packaging design has never been so flexible,’ said Mike Horsten, general manager marketing EMEA at Mimaki Europe. ‘Creativity is no longer restrained by long cycles of design, approval, implementation and production. Shorter runs, versioning and promotions can now be supported by highly flexible manufacturing technologies that aid a significantly faster route to market. Highly responsive production techniques also eliminate storage requirements and support more imaginative design implementation on an increasingly wider array of substrates. Mimaki’s portfolio has not only been designed to transform the final product, but also to help create a more attractive end-to-end supply chain that saves both time and costs.’

The company will also demonstrate how short run on-demand printing of premium, high end and luxury items is made possible by the compact desktop Mimaki UJF-3042. It offers high quality print reproduction on a wide range of materials, products and substrates. The ‘kebab’ option allows 360 degree direct printing on cylindrical items, including glass and plastic containers. ‘You have to see this to believe it, the packages are virtually jumping into the consumer’s shopping cart,’ said Mr Horsten.

All of the capabilities of the Mimaki UJF-3042 are also available in the larger A2 format UJF-6042. Both printers allow greater versatility and photo-quality print reproduction on a wide range of materials, objects and substrates. An array of beauty and cosmetics packaging samples will be produced using these printers during the show.

Cartonboard packaging will also be produced throughout the show by the compact footprint Mimaki JFX200-2513. The latest addition to the company’s range of UV LED flatbed printers, the JFX200-2513 offers a range of inks, including white and clear, that can print on a broad array of substrates.

For metallics, the CJV150-75 is an integrated printer/cutter that as well as printing silver inks can also run orange and light black inks to provide high performance, creativity and versatility. Throughout the show the CJV150-75 will be producing packaging printed on transparent media with silver ink and cut and creased in one integrated process.

Mr Horsten added, ‘Mimaki’s family of solutions supports designers and brand owners who are striving to develop packaging that wows. We have everything from an entry-level machine that allows them to check, simply, quickly and cost effectively, whether or not the design of the packaging hits the marketing sweet spot, all the way to high quality systems that address a broad range of high impact solutions. We have also developed highly versatile machines that support a flexible approach to design and production, allowing brands to be imaginative beyond their wildest dreams and ‘test the water’ profitably without the commitment of expensive longer runs that take up costly inventory space, incur additional distribution costs and often are discarded due to obsolescence. Our motto is ‘run what you need, when you need it, and change it as often as you want.’

Mimaki is exclusively distributed in the UK and Ireland by Hybrid Services Ltd and the new CFL-605RT flatbed cutter will receive its UK launch at Sign & Digital UK during the same week in March at Birmingham’s NEC.
