Held in conjunction with China Print 2013, 1600 delegates gathered recently in Beijing for Dscoop Asia 2013, part of the dynamic HP user group where printers and converters come to share their ideas and network.

Typical was Kumiko Hashimote from flexible packaging specialist, Yoshimura Packaging, from Shizuoka in Japan, in which specialises in producing packs for the Japanese Tea sector. It has succeeded in developing a valuable new business sector of short run and personalised/versioned packs and pouches for tea on its four HP Indigo WS6000 presses.

Some are very high quality with coating and lamination to exclude oxygen and moisture and keep the tea in top condition. One novel application was for special commemorative packs that are given to guests at funerals. The above picture shows an example featuring quotes from the deceased and examples of his actions. Guests appreciate the personal touch at times of grief, and this is a very high value, if niche application, enabled by digital packaging technology.
