We are pleased to announce the launch of a new industry group to help printers and their customers to understand how best to exploit the power of digital technology.
The group is aimed at printers actively involved in the digital printing of labels and packaging, brand owners, retailers, designers and agencies using or considering use of digital technology. The group’s focus is learning and education.
‘Communication is vital in today’s market and as a magazine we are committed to providing a forum for members where they can meet to discuss innovation and explore development opportunities. Our knowledge and contacts gives us a unique position to establish an independent platform for education and networking,’ said publisher Marie Rushton.

A number of activities have been planned including roundtables and a technology seminar. Furthermore, a report focusing on the changing requirements for digital labels and packaging will be published. This will also feature case studies of members’ activities.
Matt Daniels, printing & decoration capability leader, R&D packaging, Unilever, talking about why he had joined the group said, ‘Digital printing is not about tomorrow it’s about now. It is a great opportunity for Unilever to become more actively involved with printers, especially in regards to the wants and needs from an R&D perspective.’
Simon Smith, managing director CS Labels, agreed saying, ‘We believe this group represents an excellent opportunity for printers to focus brand owners and retailers on the potential offered by digital in terms of product innovation, enhanced brand quality and potential spin off marketing opportunities, instead of simply selling digital as a cheaper or more flexible alternative to other print technologies. Digital is not just about reduced origination costs compared to conventional flexo.’
The first roundtable event will take place on May 2 in Stratford-upon-Avon and will have as its theme ‘Delivering innovative labelling and packaging solutions’.
Mrs Rushton concluded, ‘This group is going to bring brands, retailers, agencies and printers together to discuss innovation and customer needs. This is an exciting industry with entrepreneurial printers who are willing to push the boundaries in exploiting the technology.’
