Amberley Labels has today announced that it is to invest in excess of three-quarters of a million pounds in the industry’s most versatile and productive digital label presses.

The Dorset based leader in digitally printed self-adhesive labels has installed an HP Indigo WS6600 printing press, thereby consolidating its position as pioneers of the process in UK.

The WS6600 from HP Indigo,  is capable of printing more than 40 linear metres per minute in full colour. The press features a new in-line priming unit (ILP), understood to be one of the first of its kind installed in the UK.

Graham Backhouse, Sales & Marketing Director, Amberley Labels commented: “This is an exciting time for Amberley and its customers. The press will significantly increase our capacity and with the ILP Unit we can run the same standard, non-treated media used in conventional production on the HP Indigo press with no off-line substrate preparation. This capability both streamlines our production environment and increases our flexibility.”

The WS6600 press will operate alongside the company’s existing WS6000 and WS4500 presses. The WS6000 press will be retrofitted with an ILP and all presses will be upgraded to increase data handling speeds and extend the range of data they can accept.  The new improved inking unit on the press will deliver a “super dense” white that will increase graphic stand out particularly on clear filmics and metallic substrates.  “The real advantage of digital printing is the elimination of process steps before jobs hit the press. The move to inline coating on our two high output presses will continue this trend.”

Amberley also continues to invest heavily in its customer service functions and is focused on integrating its management information, repro and production systems in order to automate the flow of jobs. The company has invested in all of these areas and recently spent £70,000 on a new MIS system, invested in AE10 digital workflow and will continue to develop those systems to reduce lead times.

“We are committed to HP Indigo technology as part of a future growth strategy and our increased digital capabilities will provide the perfect cost effective solution for short to medium and multi-sort label ranges.”

Amberley will be demonstrating the main marketing and cost advantages of digital print to brand owners at PACKTECH 2013, NEC Birmingham. February 27th/28th 2013 Halls 18-19 Stand B23
