EFI reported significant growth in ink sales, including a 93% boost in ink volume for the Jetrion segment in Q1 2012, compared with the same quarter in 2011 – it said, ‘These figures are strong confirmation that label converters now rely on the benefits of digital printing and the unique versatility of UV curable formulations’. Customers are reporting increased production volumes, with many running the printer two to three shifts per day, leading to a faster return on investment. ‘We originally estimated the Jetrion 4830 would pay for itself in one year, but we are getting even more business than we planned for, so we will be able to break even in six to nine months,’ said Gary Astle, vice president of commercial printer Alliance Printing. ‘And we are not even at full capacity – we are printing labels faster than we can die cut them.’

Sean Skelly, vice president and general manager of EFI Jetrion is also pleased, commenting: ‘The Jetrion product line is accelerating the transformation of the industry from analogue to digital processes, while bringing customers reduced costs and waste, and increased customer satisfaction and responsiveness. Our new Jetrion 4900 is also encouraging converters to invest in a fully integrated printing and finishing line and the growth in demand for this press is sure to see EFI’s UV ink usage continue to rise.’

EFI has upgraded the Jetrion range with a new 720 dpi mode to improve quality, while broadening its portfolio of flexo substrates that need no special coating or over-laminating. The increased print quality uses upgraded firing modes to drive the single pass Xaar printheads. This upgrade can be retrofitted onto existing 4900 presses.  Jetrion 4830 and 4900 machines have a wider choice of stocks from 3M, Avery Dennison, Flexcon, Raflatac, Ritrama, Spinnaker and Wausau.
