The Barthel Group has installed three HP Indigo digital presses, an HP Indigo 20000 and two HP Indigo 6900s, as part of its drive to increase capacity and shift print runs from offset to digital.
The German label manufacturer now has nine HP Indigo presses and produces around 270,000sqm of labels every day across four sites in Germany and the Netherlands.
‘The amount of digitally printed labels and the number of orders that leave our company every day are steadily growing,’ said Mischa Barthel, managing director of the Barthel Group. ‘We rely 100% on digital printing to handle orders consisting of numerous language versions. Our benefits are two-fold: we save time because we don’t have to change plates, and we can take full advantage of the width of the HP Indigo 20000 as we cut the web in half and finish immediately. This enables us to achieve almost offset speed at two times 32 m/min.’
The company, headquartered in Essen, said it opted for the presses thanks to their register accuracy when printing heat-sensitive PE films and the quality of the white ink compared to inkjet printing solutions.
