Brentwood-based Baker Labels has welcomed Phil Smith to its management team as the trade label printer prepares to expand into new areas. He joins owners Mandy and Steve Baker, production manager Paul Sykes and commercial manager Jamie Doogan in the new role of general manager of BakPac.
This is the company’s first new addition at senior management level in 10 years and is described as ‘a reflection of the continuous, positive growth of the UK leading trade label printer.’
Mr Smith has a long career in the label industry, having started out at Sussex Labels in 1990. In 1999, he joined Tinsley Robor Labels where he took on a number of management roles in accounts, technical, commercial and operations, before being appointed operations director of AGI Labels. When the company became AJS Labels, he was appointed commercial director then managing director. When MPS absorbed AJS Labels, Mr Smith was appointed general manager.
Steve Baker, managing director, said, ‘We have been growing rapidly over the last few years and the plan is to keep building, investing and growing, potentially into new areas of the print and packaging industry. We have some big plans ahead that created the need for another manager. I’ve known Phil for many years and always knew he’d be a good fit at Bakers. I’m looking forward to working with him, as are the rest of the team.’
Mr Smith added, ‘I am delighted to become part of the Bakers team, who are highly skilled and passionate about the customer base. Their continued investment, growth and technical development is second to none. Baker Labels has a great reputation in the label industry and this opportunity to spread that reputation into new areas is a very exciting prospect.’
