AstroNova has developed the TrojanLabel T2-L, claimed as the world’s first narrow format digital flexible packaging press.
Designed to accommodate both short-run and high-volume digital printing, T2-L uses Natura inks, dye inks formulated with nearly 70% water. Lamination and heat-sealing are offered as options.
T2-L offers a print resolution of 1600 x 1600dpi in full colour, printing at 9m/min or 18m/min in print only mode. Printing and laminating can be done at 9m/min. Print widths are 51-223mm and lengths are 10-1525mm (unlimited stitched).
Citing figures from the recently rebranded Smithers, AstroNova noted that total worldwide sales for flexible packaging are expected to grow to $269 billion in 2024 from $228 billion this year.
T2-L is intended to help brand owners, manufacturers and commercial printers to efficiently scale and grow their businesses.
AstroNova president and CEO Greg Woods said, ‘Our T2-L plays directly into strong secular trends driving the growth of the flexible packaging industry, including increased urbanisation, a greater consumer focus on sustainability and the growth of e-commerce. Our technology helps to create lightweight, durable packaging that reduces waste, lowers transportation costs, and is safer for the environment.’
AstroNova has partnered with Sihl to develop materials to run on T2-L.
T2-L debuts at the forthcoming Pack Expo Las Vegas and Labelexpo Europe 2019 shows.
