French converter Imprimerie de L’Éperon has installed its second HP Indigo 8000 digital press.

A label print service provider, Imprimerie de L’Éperon acquired its first HP Indigo 8000 in January 2018. Reaching full capacity, the converter invested in a second unit to keep up with the demand for labels from its clients, mostly in the agri-food industry.

Delivered last month, the second press is now up and running at the label printer’s site in Preyssac d’Excideuil in the Dordogne region.

Christophe Vavassori, the printer’s president, said, ‘We are very pleased to be the first in France to be equipped with two HP Indigo 8000 digital presses as we expand our digital production. We have quickly discovered the benefits of the HP Indigo 8000 economics to improve our margins and streamline operations.’

Established in 1956, Imprimerie de L’Éperon operates a 6,000sqm facility with a range of flexo equipment alongside an HP digital press fleet. With its latest investment, the printer plans to move more volume to digital from flexo and improve margins. While the HP Indigo 8000 presses – printing at up to 80m/min – are focused on medium and longer runs, including transfers from flexo, an HP Indigo WS6800 is producing high-versatility short runs.

Earlier this year, Imprimerie de L’Éperon tied for second place in the HP Indigo 8000 challenge for productivity in one shift, producing 20,292 metres, five SKUs, and two types of labels: wraparound and pressure-sensitive.

Mr Vavassori added, ‘The HP Indigo 8000 is a real productivity workhorse and is an important factor driving our year-over-year company growth. With the HP Indigo 8000 we can keep customers delighted and also gain new markets with the highest quality label at a price and response time that customers truly appreciate.’
