Bobst is to make digital printing technology one of the cornerstones of its presence at next year’s drupa.

Taking place 16-26 June in Dusseldorf, Germany, drupa is widely known as the ‘Olympics of the print industry’, taking place once every four years and running over an extended period of 11 days.  With much of the industry now firmly on the road to drupa 2020, including Digital Labels & Packaging, Bobst has taken the time to outline its vision for the show, and the future of packaging production.

This is to include: new digitalised workflows, from the initial PDF to the final product; machines designed for e-commerce requirements and to accommodate increasing packaging variations and complexity; and digital printing presses to help brand owners fulfil their requirements around reduced batch sizes, and to implement customisation and individualisation efficiently with quality and colour consistency across the globe.

Mouvent, a joint venture providing Bobst with a foothold in digital printing, continues to advance its range of inkjet presses and their capabilities, while the Bobst Master DM5 hybrid press was launched officially earlier this year, combining Bobst’s expertise in flexo with Mouvent inkjet digital printing technology.

Bobst stated, ‘On the road to drupa 2020 it is important to acknowledge global trends such as urbanisation, shifting demographics, the rapid acceleration of technology, and the digitalisation of the global economy. At the same time, it is important to heed the need for stronger consumer engagement, increased differentiation and greater sustainability.

‘At drupa 2020, as a leading technology company in the packaging world, it is our duty to deliver expertise to shape the future of the packaging industry.

‘Our vision for packaging production is anchored in data access and control across the entire workflow, helping packaging converters to become more flexible and agile. We call it ‘Packaging Production 4.0’ and we would like to invite you to our booth where we will share a vision for the future as never before.’
