Madrid-based printer b2Pack has added a Miyakoshi MJP13LXV, augmenting its production capability with UV LED inkjet digital printing.

The Spanish printer manufactures packaging and labels for sectors including cosmetics, gourmet foods, and wines and spirits. To serve such demanding markets, b2Pack deploys a variety of printing technologies, from flexo, semi-rotating offset, screen and digital, which now includes inkjet. Back in 2016, b2Pack installed the first HP Indigo 30000 digital press in Europe configured with an inline corona treatment unit.

b2Pack CEO Alberto Sanz commented, ‘We have made a substantial commitment to digital printing in term of response times, variability in models, and special finishes. That’s where we’ve been focusing our investment over the past five years.

Nevertheless, and in spite of our excellent reputation and market position, we are not a large label manufacturer. At the production level, our staff numbers less than 30 people, of whom almost 20% are already working in digital, all of which confirms our plans to be active in the use of that technology.

‘We were essentially faced with two choices: to go for volume by partnering or merging with larger players, or to seek a niche strategy involving serving customers who need to customise their output in the form of variable product, offering them greater variety coupled with more responsive and agile operations. We took the second path and bet our business on it, right or wrong.’

The Miyakoshi MJP13LXV is a UV LED inkjet label press capable of running six colours, in a CMYK+W+W configuration, at 330mm wide, 50m/min with a resolution of 1200 x 1200dpi. The press has a drying system that utilises nitrogen purging to maximise cure of the UV LED inks on a variety of materials.
