US-based Mepco Label Systems has expanded its digital label and package printing capacity with the installation of an HP Indigo 20000, specifically giving it access to the growing market for digitally printed flexible packaging.
From two sites in the US – one a 174,000 sqft facility in the heart of the central valley of California in Lodi and the other a 17,000 sqft facility in Horn Lake, Mississippi – Mepco Label Systems serves a range of agricultural, food and home care products. The converter is primarily focused on producing pressure- sensitive labels, shrink sleeves and flexible packaging.
The new HP Indigo digital press has been acquired to enable Mepco Label Systems to expand its services into digital flexible packaging, with the press’ 30in format allowing a vast array of applications to be produced, such as stand-up pouches, zipper pouches and flexible packaging.
Mepco Label Systems already operates a fleet of flexo label printing presses and a narrow web HP Indigo digital label printing press. The installation of the HP Indigo 20000 has added to the company’s portfolio of digital presses, expanding capacity and allowing for quick turnarounds of very high-quality products.
Installation was only completed a few weeks ago and is already producing large volumes of emergency orders, in wake of the COVID-19 health crisis, as Mepco Label Systems president Jennifer Tracy explained.
‘We are doing all that we can to help produce essential products for our customers in order to help in any way we can.’
Ms Tracy continued, ‘Our digital presses have taken our production to the next level, allowing for us to produce beautiful quality products at exceptional fast turnarounds.
‘The HP Indigo 20000 will enable our company to offer small and medium brands flexible packaging products at an economical price to test out the market and get on the shelves fast. In addition, the press will improve our company’s economics by cutting out set up and setting us a part from our competitors.’
The HP Indigo will also enable Mepco Label Systems to offer its customers improved sustainability by offering many more options of recyclable and compostable materials.
