Corrugated industry association FEFCO has appointed Eleni Despotou as its new secretary general.
FEFCO – the European Federation of Corrugated Board Manufacturers – represents the interests of European corrugated board manufacturers.
Ms Despotou took up the position on 1 February, 2021, replacing Angelika Christ who had held the post since 2007 and is retiring.
FEFCO noted that Ms Despotou has in-depth knowledge of the European Union Institutions and industry associations, with a long-standing experience of more than 20 years in association management and public affairs. Before joining FEFCO, she held a number of positions of responsibility in various industries including energy-intensive ones, renewables and minerals. Over the years, this had granted her extensive expertise on climate change, energy, the circular economy, sustainability, innovation, industrial policy issues, as well as the Green Deal. She has participated in many expert and high-level groups of the European Institutions.
FEFCO president Fady Gemayel said, ‘The board is confident that together with its European members, Eleni will strengthen FEFCO’s position on the Brussels scene and continue raising awareness about the importance of the corrugated board industry among its key stakeholders.
‘We count on our members’ support and we are looking forward to an excellent and fruitful collaboration.’
Thanking Ms Christ for her achievements over the years, Mr Gemayel said, ‘We are all grateful for the many years of dedication in serving our industry with utmost professionalism and contagious passion and wish her a well-deserved and serene retirement.’
