Korea Houghton Corporation has installed four anytron any-002 digital colour label printers, upgrading its production of GHS compliant labels.
The company, which was founded in the early 1970s as a technical alliance and capital joint venture with the US-based Houghton International, regularly prints various types of labels for a variety of oil and chemical products. Its previous production process using a thermal barcode printer was causing issues with inventory and obsolescence. The company was also encountering problems with the readability of codes and other information when printing using ribbons, as well as only being able to print monochrome with its existing setup.
Any-002 is a toner-based desktop colour laser printing system, which can print at a speed of 9m/min with a resolution of 600 x 1200dpi. It supports printing on continuous rolls of material, as well as pre-cut labelstock, with a maximum print width of 209mm..
At Korea Houghton Corporation, the machines are connected with the company’s ERP system, allowing the production of labels at the appropriate time, in the correct volume, and up-to-date. Furthermore, the ability to better print QR codes is allowing Korea Houghton Corporation to combat counterfeiting in the lubricant market.
The investment has had more tangible benefits too, in that the cost per label has been reduced by around 40%, compared to those produced using thermal ribbons, whilst the durability of the print has improved legibility and the appearance of labels, even when used outdoors. Further, this has improved the quality perception and market position of Korea Houghton Corporation’s products in a competitive market.
