Sihl has named Stephan Schmitz as its new environmental social governance (ESG) director, furthering its focus on environmental best practice and sustainable business.
This is a new role at Sihl, and will focus on the reduction of environmental pollution and greenhouse gas emissions, use of sustainable energy sources, growth of recycable materials and products, as well as occupational safety and health for employees, social commitment and corporate governance.
Mr Schmitz said, ‘The aim of this function will be to further develop the ESG strategy of our company, to make it more concrete and to implement it throughout the entire Sihl Group. This is another important step in our efforts to become a sustainable company.’
Mr Schmitz, head of purchasing at Sihl, will take up the role as of 1 August, 2021, in addition to his existing responsibilities.
Sihl Group CEO Peter K. Wahsner said, ‘For us, the protection of our environment and the health of our employees are important components of our success and the guideline. As a company, we are striving to achieve an ESG rating by the beginning of 2022, which clearly documents that we are seriously addressing this issue. For this reason, we have created the new position of the ESG director for the Sihl Group, which Stephan Schmitz will take over from August.’
