UK-based converter Mercian Labels has introduced Closed Loop, its own label liner recycling service.
When Mercian Labels’ customers return pre-sorted liner waste back to the converter, it will be checked, collated and sent off for pulping, where it will then be turned back into release liner and paper to be used in magazine publishing. The programme is open to new and all existing Mercian Labels customers.
Mercian Labels has identified the programme as having a ‘real impact’ on businesses throughout the UK and the environment, from cost savings to helping to contribute to a circular economy and make a difference to the future of the planet.
In a statement, Mercian Labels noted, ‘The truth is, that for many brands, the label release liner is often forgotten about. You see for so many years there hasn’t been a sustainable alternative when it comes to processing label liner waste, other than Landfill or Incineration.’
Closed Loop is the company’s latest sustainability initiative, with more to follow.
