Alliance Graphics & Printing of Houston, Texas has installed a Screen Truepress Jet L350UV+ inkjet label press, which has enhanced its capacity by 80%.
As one of the first adopters of inkjet digital technology for label production in the area, Alliance Graphics & Printing has grown its label business to a $9 million enterprise, with $11 million in revenue expected in 2021. Whilst the three decade old company also offers commercial, speciality, direct mail and fulfilment services totalling $24 million in annual revenue, its owner Jeff Birmingham observed an increase in demand for labels in conjunction with the need for additional hand sanitiser products in 2020.
‘That’s what really sustained our business during the pandemic,’ he said.
Already familiar with inkjet technology, Mr Birmingham turned to Screen Americas and chose the Truepress Jet L350UV+ with white and orange colour options in an effort to capitalise on the growing demand for labels.
Moreover, as a printer who once owned and operated five flexographic presses in its label business, Alliance Graphics & Printing now operates only two. The speed offered by the Truepress Jet L350UV+ has allowed the company to transfer many print jobs traditionally reserved for flexographic presses onto the Screen press. It has also allowed Mr Birmingham to tap into markets and obtain certain jobs that would have otherwise been impracticable on his other digital inkjet presses. He explained, ‘I have three other digital inkjet presses from another manufacturer and the Truepress Jet L350UV+ is faster than all three of them put together. Because of Screen, my capacity has increased by 80%.’
The press is located in one of Alliance Graphics & Printing’s two facilities and is responsible for printing the company’s most sophisticated labels.
The sale marks the first label press sold by Screen Americas to a Texas-based printer, paving the way for both an increase in label production in the region, and growth in Screen’s presence in Texas. With its label production flourishing in Houston, Mr Birmingham and Alliance Graphics & Printing are now looking ahead to investing in another inkjet digital press from Screen.
