US-based Impact Label has improved its capabilities following the installation of a Domino N610i at the height of the coronavirus pandemic.

The business, located in Kalamazoo, Michigan is a custom label printer serving markets including outdoor recreational, agricultural, medical, automotive, electronics and food. Impact Label produces products, from domed labels and graphic overlays for consumer products, to safety and warning labels for industrial applications. Covid-19 saw an increase in demand from certain industries, such as medical and outdoor recreational, so being able to produce high-volume with the highest quality, efficiency and speed, without overwhelming the company, became critical.

In October 2020, Impact Label installed the Domino N610i digital UV inkjet label press, a decision based on, ‘speed, quality, consistency, and cost,’ according to company vice president Matt Berry.

‘Our customers require high-quality, durable products with a short lead time. We are constantly improving our capabilities and investing in new equipment and technologies. We knew that digital would address those key critical elements that would be a win-win for our customers and Impact Label.’

Abdullah Alyousif, director of engineering at Impact Label, said, ‘We researched various digital printing solutions, and Domino was the best fit for our needs; speed, quality, white opacity, technical knowledge, and commitment are world-class.’

This view is confirmed by the printer’s digital press technicians, Lucas Adams and Bashir Toliver Sr., who note that throughput, capacity, uptime and efficiency have each increased, whilst make-ready, turnaround and delivery times have all decreased.

In addition to benefitting from the capability of Domino press and the supplier’s support and service offer, the UV inkjet digital label press has allowed Impact Label to target new business, as Mr Berry explained, ‘Since installing the Domino, we are more competitive in full-colour labels. We are targeting a more comprehensive range of industries and partnering with other label providers who don’t have the same capabilities.’

He continued, ‘We’ve increased our profitability. Our sales and revenue have increased by 13%, we’ve gained new customers, and we’ve entered new industries such as food, beverage, and cannabis.’

‘We have a strategy in place, and we are planning to grow aggressively in the next 5-10 years. We are planning to install new equipment and of course more Domino presses,’ concluded Mr Berry.
