Italian printing company Screen Srl has invested in Cartes’ digital finishing and laser die-cutting technology to advance its production of self-adhesive labels.
Located in Mazzo di Rho near Milan, the converter has a history of investing in cutting-edge digital technologies, such as one of the first Durst inkjet label presses and a Truepress Jet L350UV inkjet engine from namesake supplier Screen Europe. Having been present on the Italian market since 1987, such investments example how the company has progressed from its classical photolithography roots. Andrea Rossetti, of Screen Srl, said the company’s experiences gained in the printing graphics industry has led to a fundamental step forward, by investing in technological research and sustainability.
‘Because the world is constantly evolving and we want to grow with it, our mission is to become an increasingly green and self-sufficient company, thus eliminating waste and reducing the amount of carbon dioxide emitted into the atmosphere.’
Laser die-cutting is highlighted as helping facilitate this, by removing the use of aluminium die-cutting plates – ‘too often used and never disposed of through recycling’ – whilst allowing the creation of complex shapes and contours.
Mr Rossetti continued, ‘The new Cartes digital finishing machine is our flagship and allows us to create even more personalised and unique labels, digitally finishing with very fine foil details, in an immediate way and without the use of equipment, also increasing the thickness of the embossing, inserting opaque or glossy elements and, with the laser digital die-cutting unit, shaping the label, creating ad hoc patterns, all sent directly from a PDF file.’
Digital Labels & Packaging is to publish a digital finishing and embellishment supplement alongside the November/December 2022 issue of the magazine; register here to receive your copy
