US printer Penmar Industries has installed a Screen Truepress Jet L350UV SAI S inkjet digital label press as part of the company’s long-term strategic plan to meet growing demand for short runs of customised labels that require variable data.
Based in Stratford, Connecticut, Penmar Industries has been providing custom label, tape and packaging options since 1964. The company’s label business operates out of a 15,000sqft facility, which is where the new Screen press has been installed. A separate facility in Erlanger, Kentucky serves as a location for producing pressure-sensitive tapes.
The investment in UV inkjet digital printing has been identified as relevant for a number of end-use applications, such as e-commerce. Company CEO Ed Rodriguez noted, ‘Just about every item needs a label. The Truepress Jet L350UV SAI helps us to reach markets we would not otherwise reach. E-commerce is one of them. Some companies only need 500 labels but they need them quickly. The SAI is a cost-efficient way to meet such an urgent request.’
The beverage industry is another identified as offering ‘significant potential’. With the SAI S press installed configured with CMYK plus white, orange and blue ink channels, Mr Rodriquez said, ‘Given the SAI’s reputation for perfecting the production of opaque labels for coloured bottles with its high-opacity white ink mode, we are looking forward to expanding our reach in the beverage industry.’
He continued, ‘It is beneficial and cost-effective for us to have a press reserved for jobs that require producing multiple versions of the same label. A customer may wish to make changes to the copy at intervals of 100. Meeting such frequent demands will be far more economical with the SAI in the long run.’
