Fujifilm has confirmed the impending commercial availability of its Jet Press FP790 digital flexible packaging press, which is to be commercially available in late 2023.
First announced in 2021, FP790 is the company’s first digital flexible packaging press. Successful beta trials have since been completed in Europe, the US and Japan.
The 1200 x 1200dpi press prints with CMYK inks and runs at 50m/min, irrespective of the ink colours specified. Alongside a claimed ‘very high uptime’, the press is also claimed as capable of producing a, ‘ultra-high quality print with a remarkably wide colour gamut’, according to Fujifilm, along with having two white ink channels for high white opacity said to match or outperform current analogue standards.
To allow Jet Press FP790 to integrate into existing production environments, Fujifilm is entering into multiple strategic partnerships. Three partners already confirmed are Henkel, Nordmeccanica and Hybrid Software. More partnerships are to be announced in due course.
Manuel Schrutt, head of packaging at Fujifilm for the EMEA region, said, ‘Fujifilm has built a reputation for excellence in inkjet technology over many years. This hard-won expertise has now been adapted for the specific requirements of the flexible packaging market – drawing also on Fujifilm’s extensive experience supporting packaging printers with inks, curing systems, plates and imprinting solutions. Offering exceptional quality, seamless integration, and excellent reliability and productivity, the Jet Press FP790 offers a new level of combined quality, productivity and reliability in a digital packaging press.’
Fujifilm has used the recent interpack packaging exhibition to showcase the capabilities of Jet Press FP790 to the industry.
