Retired cricketer Geoff Miller is to host this year’s Digital Labels & Packaging Awards 2023.
The awards are a celebration of the great and the good using digital to print and convert labels and packaging. This year is the second edition of the awards programme, with 14 trophies up for grabs, alongside the Supreme Award. Click here for details of this year’s nominees.
Mr Miller will be the one on hand to present the trophies as well as warm up the audience with stories from his career playing domestic cricket for Derbyshire and Essex and representing England at the crease. He started his cricketing career for Derbyshire in 1973 and after a couple of breakthrough years, he was named the Cricket Writers’ Club Young Cricketer of the Year in 1976 before becoming Derbyshire captain in 1979. Under Mr Miller’s captaincy, Derbyshire won the Natwest Bank Trophy in 1981. He briefly played for Essex towards the end of the 1980s, before returning to Derbyshire where he would remain until retirement. Overall, Mr Miller played 283 first-class matches and took 888 wickets. He also scored 12,027 runs. Such stats make him arguably one of Derbyshire’s greatest ever players. During his international career, Mr Miller scored 1213 runs and took 60 wickets in his 34 test matches. In ODIs, he took 25 wickets in 25 games, although rarely featured with the bat.
One of his most memorable moments as a test cricketer came in Melbourne during the 1982/83 Ashes series. Australia needed three runs to win when Ian Botham bowled a delivery to Jeff Thomson. The ball appeared to have been dropped in the slip cordon but Mr Miller leapt and caught the ball millimetres above the ground to see England win.
Mr Miller will share anecdotes and tales from across his career during the Digital Labels & Packaging Awards 2023 ceremony, which will take place on 29 June 2023 at The Kia Oval in London.
The lunchtime awards ceremony will commence at 12pm and tickets are available to purchase now via www.dlandpawards.com or by emailing Chloe Ward on chloe.w@whitmar.co.uk. Individual tickets are priced at £250+VAT or tables of 10 can be booked for £2500+VAT.
