Printing ink industry veteran Jim Wegemer is to leave the industry at the end of the month, but not before leading the only digital presentation at CorrExpo 2023.
Mr Wegemer, director of national accounts at INX International Ink, is retiring at the end of the month after a 50-year career in the printing ink industry. On 30 August, as part of the conference programme at CorrExpo 2023, he will moderate the session, ‘What’s new in Digital – Printing or Trend?’. Joined by Chris Heusch, Arch, Inc president, they are to discuss a number of issues impacting the corrugated market, such as inkjet’s role in the future of corrugated.
Whilst noting that ‘digital ink for corrugated is very affordable’, Mr Wegemer went on to cite statistics that have the worldwide corrugated packaging market expected to increase to $170 billion by 2028, ‘meaning it represents significant market growth with a 4.6% CAGR.
‘The demand for corrugated boxes and displays has risen for all applications, from food and beverage products and consumer durables to electronics and electrical appliances. Pharmaceutical packaging has experienced substantial growth since 2021, mostly attributed to changes driven by the Covid-19 pandemic. Consumers have become more environmentally conscious and are supporting companies that recognise the value of sustainable products through the use of innovation and technology.’
CorrExpo is an annual gathering for the corrugated industry hosted by industry association Tappi.
