UK trade printer Baker Labels has established a foundation to further the company’s long-standing support of charity and community, with an initial £150,000 donation demonstrating the company’s ongoing work to make a difference to those in need, its employees and the wider print industry.
Since moving to Brentwood, Essex in 2011, Bakers has placed high importance on charity and the community. This has been through financial donations, fundraising, volunteering, sponsorship and supplying printed material. Over the years Bakers has regularly made these donations to various charities and local clubs. As a well as supporting these charities, Bakers staff are afforded the opportunity to learn about the work such charities do and see how their hard work translates to supporting them through donations.
As Baker Labels celebrates its 50th anniversary this year, company managing director Steve Baker has sought to add more structure and commitment to the company’s existing charitable contributions. This has seen the creation of The Bakers Foundation as a new sector of the company with the sole focus of donating a fixed percentage of profit every year to various good causes. For the business year ending in August 2023, £150,000 was the final amount shared amongst good causes. This saw donations made to the following charities: Kids Inspire, Snap, Brentwood Foodbank, Billericay Foodbank, Aching Arms, Wipe Away Those Tears, Brentwood Theatre Trust, POD Charitable Trust and Challenging MND, as well as various other charities in previous months.
As well as charity donations, Bakers sponsors local sports teams, Brentwood Rugby Club and Great Danes Women’s Football, and this year are title sponsors for the Brentwood Half Marathon.
Bakers also received the Global Converter of the Year award at the 2023 Label Industry Global Awards, given to a printing/converting company who has encouraged a diverse and inclusive work environment, developed a comprehensive training programme and contributed to community/charity initiatives.
‘This global recognition for Bakers’ commitment to staff wellbeing and community confirms the impact we have been able to make,’ the company stated. ‘Not only are we proud of the change we have been able to make in our community but we also hope to serve as an inspiration for other printers and local businesses.’
