Web-to-print (W2P) specialist Infigo and global CAD/CAM software expert EngView Systems are collaborating to introduce the ‘ultimate’ e-commerce 3D design tool for the packaging sector, powered by parametric computer-aided design (CAD).
Established in 1999, EngView Systems is a producer of software for the packaging industry, specialising in the development of CAD/CAM systems for the design and pre-production of packaging and POP/POS displays. Infigo, meanwhile, is a provider of personalised print and e-commerce systems.
Infigo has already spoken about its use of parametric design as part of the wider use of artificial intelligence (AI) with, ‘the print industry next in line to benefit from the AI revolution,’ according to Infigo CEO Douglas Gibson. Through its confirmed collaboration with EngView, the introduction of parametric CAD will enable converters to capitalise on the growing print e-commerce market.
More than 1500 parametric designs are available for folding cartons, corrugated boards, grey board and PVC, with the as-yet-unnamed tool including a library of full parametrised ECMA and FEFCO codes. As such, through the integration, users can create bespoke packaging, with assured compliance with food and pharmaceutical packaging regulations. This is in addition to existing capabilities offered by Infigo, such as: drag-and-drop design tools; integration with a range of third-party systems, platforms and hardware to synchronise data and create an entirely automated workflow; and online ordering, with automatic proofing without human intervention.
Michael Zauner, chief technology officer at Infigo, said, ‘Obviously, EngView has a fantastic offering, which is at the forefront of CAD. However, for us, it’s as much about the people and the culture and values of the providers we work with. Not only is EngView a great bunch of people, but they are incredibly dynamic. They were as willing as we were to get started on the project, which meant we could start development immediately.’
Boriana Stoimenova, head of the packaging division at EngView Systems, said, ‘We’re thrilled to collaborate with Infigo, merging our distinct parametric drafting technology and quarter-century of industry experience with their prowess in web-to-print ecommerce. Together, we’re crafting a user-friendly yet robust web-to-pack solution that precisely addresses the current demands of the print and packaging sector.’
While the as-yet-unnamed tool will not be launched until 2024, a demonstration will be available at Printing United 2024, taking place 18-20 October at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta.
