ClimatCalc, the industry’s first online, print-specific, Europe-wide carbon calculator, has been upgraded to improve its functionality, security and the user experience.
ClimateCalc is a calculation tool that provides customers and manufacturers with relevant information concerning the total carbon footprint of a print and packaging product. It includes Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions as recommended by the Greenhouse Gas Protocol and several international industry and ISO standards. ClimateCalc is verified to cover 95% of calculable emissions and complies with both ISO14064-1 and ISO 16759. A ClimateCalc calculation also provides knowledge about specific factors in the design and production processes that contribute to the overall carbon footprint. This can be used in the dialogue between customer and producer to make prioritised choices regarding the use of less CO2 intensive energy sources and materials which can contribute to an improved carbon footprint for the product. Further, a specific product calculation provides a documented and accurate basis for potential compensation of the remaining carbon footprint.
ClimateCalc allows a site to specify the emissions factors for substrates, rather than using a single government figure. This is noted as important due to substrate making up a huge proportion of a site’s footprint and being the main way a company can reduce its footprint.
To improve its functionality, the totally revamped ClimateCalc site offers improved login facilities, easier set ups for multi-site operations – including the sharing of substrate data – and easier to share product calculations. The ClimateCalc site is also now prepared for API integration at a later date.
