GMG has release the latest versions of its ColorServer, OpenColor and ColorProof software, as it seeks to ‘significantly increase productivity in print production.’

The updates – GMG ColorServer 5.5, GMG OpenColor 3.1 and GMG ColorProof 5.15 – are available now. Specifically, a new MXN colour engine is said to achieve a ‘significant’ performance jump for GMG’s conversion and separation applications. Usability has been improved also, with switching between applications now no longer necessary. GMG is also switching to online licensing.

Jens Bloeck, product manager at GMG, explained, ‘We have put a lot of development work into improving the interaction between our applications and optimising the overall user experience. When working with GMG ColorServer, users no longer have to switch back and forth between applications. This not only increases efficiency – the improved user experience is also simply more enjoyable.’

In packaging printing, where colour accuracy and consistency are critical, GMG claims that its technology guarantees the reliable representation of brand colours, particularly on difficult substrates.

Mr Bloeck said, ‘We now use an improved profiling algorithm and our new MXN separation engine in GMG SmartProfiler to calculate separation and conversion profiles. This allows us to achieve even better colour and print quality in digital printing. We especially see qualitative improvements in converting files from a large colour space to smaller colour spaces. In practice, this means that we get visibly better results on uncoated natural corrugated cardboard, even in dark colour areas.’

The update directly related to ColorProof is its support for the HP DesignJet Z9+ for production of press proofs, so alleviating HP Indigo print engines of this burden and allowing them to produce saleable work.
