Nyquist Systems, the developer and manufacturer of TubeScan print inspection system, has completed a change in management that has seen Stephan Krebs hand over the running of the business to Joachim Barthelme.

Mr Barthelme has more than two decades of experience in the printing industry, spent within Koenig & Bauer and its various business units. This includes in aftersales, project management business development, operations roles with its Digital & Web Solutions division and, most recently, as chief operations officer at Koenig & Bauer Flexotecnica.

Mr Krebs founded Nyquist Systems in 2005. In 2011, he formulated the idea of using matrix cameras for print inspection in place of line scan cameras. This resulted in the TubeScan inspection system that allowed a more cost-optimised entry into 100% label inspection. Today, there are more than 2800 TubeScan inspection systems in printing companies around the world, used in the narrow web sector as well as on presses with web widths up to 1700mm. Further developments by Nyquist Systems have pushed inspection technology forward, such as the inspection of printed fluorescent ink using UV light, Delta E monitoring, dynamic job change, inspection of variable data, and the end-to-end QLink workflow that covers pre-press to finishing.

Since 2013, BST has been handling the distribution of the systems, and in 2020, Nyquist Systems became part of the elexis group, whose CEO, Alexander Heck, said, ‘With Joachim Barthelme we have gained an experienced manager with proven industry knowledge.’

Mr Krebs becomes product manager and will now devote his full attention to product management, placing an even greater emphasis on innovation.

He commented, ‘BST TubeScan is the technology leader, Nyquist Systems is in an excellent position. Now it is time to pass the torch to younger hands. The new team lineup will allow us to focus even more on the innovations that the market demands and to keep pace with the company’s growth.’

Technical director Christian Dotzler completes the new-look management team at Nyquist Systems, alongside Mr Barthelme and Mr Krebs.
