Packaging manufacturer Durham Box has donated large quantities of boxes and dump bins in support of its chosen local charity, Feeding Families.
Feeding Families helps families in the Sunderland, Newcastle, County Durham, Northumberland and Teesside areas of the UK, who are experiencing food poverty. In support, a strategic model has been created to provide food to those in need and guidance from experts who deal with poverty issues. This partnership allows these professionals to focus on their expertise, while Feeding Families ensures that food is available to those in need.
Durham Box’s involvement with Feeding Families began in 2017 with a food project for Christmas. Since then, the company’s role has expanded significantly with the provision of emergency food boxes for the Feeding Families’ year-round programme. So far in 2023, Durham Box has provided 4000 welcome home boxes, 28,500 standard boxes, 1500 collection bins, 300 toppers and 12,000 Christmas boxes. All are designed and printed free of charge. These donations have allowed Feeding Families to deliver emergency food boxes across 12 local authorities, providing 346,731 meals valued at £330,220.
Durham Box managing director Dan Morris said, ‘We are delighted to be supporting Feeding Families again this year. Recognising the hardships faced by many families in the region, especially in these challenging times, we feel privileged to contribute in a meaningful way through our donations. We believe it’s essential to stand with those in need, and we’re committed to making a positive impact in the fight against food poverty.’
Juliet Sanders, Feeding Families CEO, said, ‘Durham Box’s support has been the backbone of our operations. Its commitment from our early days to the present has been a shining example of how the business community can positively impact local charities.’
