Electronic Imaging Materials (EIM), a family-owned label manufacturing company located in Keene, New Hampshire, has detailed the environmental gains it has achieved after installing a Xeikon Panther PX2200 inkjet digital label press.

Founded in 1987, EIM is a recognised leader in barcode labels for: slide, vial and plate laboratory labelling; rack, bin and package labels for warehouses and distribution; inventory tagging of property and assets; safety and security markings; and rugged labels for manufacturing and industrial use. It serves customers in more than 100 countries around the world.

Running PantherCure LED inks, PX2200 is offered as an entry-level label press for end-use applications that require durability and a tactile, glossy look and feel within the self-adhesive label market. The press can reach a speed of 50m/min, printing at 600dpi with four or five colours (CMYK and optional single-pass opaque white).

‘Xeikon stood out for its next-gen printing capabilities and strengths with variable data,’ stated EIM president Alex Henkel. ‘As a company that values having a net positive impact on the region our employees live in, what sets this printer apart for us is the leap forward in energy efficiency when compared to the older inkjet press it is replacing.’

EIM product manager Juan Munoz DDED, ‘Both the Panther’s LED ink curing process, as well as its 600Dpi printings improvements on ink usage are a leap into a more sustainable energy impact for us as a label converter. Because of the LED ink technology, the Panther series press doesn’t require as much energy to cure inks as traditional UV inks. And the 600dpi printheads lay down less ink, therefore reducing ink consumption compared to 360dpi printheads.’
