Atlanta Label, located in Buford, Georgia, has detailed the success it has had since adding digital to its production mix last year with a Durst Tau RSC E inkjet digital label press, an installation which is likely to lead to further investment in additional digital capacity in the near future.

This has largely been used to allow the privately-owned label printing business, which was founded in 1979, to bring previously outsourced work back in-house. Atlanta Label has historically focused on the flexo print process to manufacture labels for its customer base. After years of outsourcing work not best produced using flexo, Atlanta Label sought to invest in a digital option to bring such jobs back in-house. In addition, the printer and its customers had began to suffer from growing lead times and decreases in quality.

To overcome such issues and align with its focus on customer relationships and satisfaction, Atlanta Label sought a digital printing option that could produce in high quality at fast speeds, as well as seeking a strong relationship with the chosen supplier partner. Having been directed to Durst by a print finishing equipment manufacturer, the Tau RSC E platform was opted for. This press offers: eight colour options, plus high opacity white; a 1200dpi native resolution; and a maximum print speed of 52m/min, which is upgradeable to 80m/min.

According to Lyn Thomas, owner and CEO at Atlanta Label, ‘Durst was excellent from the beginning. Our leadership team was impressed by the speed and 1200dpi print quality of the printer, and also their customer service and price point.

‘We never missed lead times, and our quality exponentially increased. Through the installation, our team had a good grasp on what to do, and Durst support was always there. It was smooth to say the least.’

Steve Lynn, labels and packaging director at Durst US, ‘It’s always very exciting to partner with and help evolve a business into its next chapter. When Atlanta Label began its research into digital print technology, it was recommended to investigate Durst by a print finishing manufacturer, which speaks to the quality of our technology.

‘Now Atlanta Label has entered the digital world with one of the most innovative printers on the market. We look forward to continuing to develop this relationship and help the company grow this division of its business.’

Mr Thomas concluded, ‘We have never had this type of experience with another equipment manufacturer. Durst provided us with the same standard of service that we give to our customers, which is rarely the case in our experience. Durst has set a standard that will be difficult for their competitors to match. As we continue to grow, we are hopeful to buy another Durst soon.’
