UK-based Qualvis, producer of printed cartons for the food, distillery and cosmetic sectors, has invested in its folding and gluing capabilities from Friedheim, to improve both quality and capacity to meet growing demand.
Hot off the stand at drupa 2024 is the Duran Alius 90. The Omega Alius series of high-automation folder gluers represents peak productivity in modern folding carton manufacturing. Cutting-edge automation features drastically reduce make-ready times during job changes, enabling high-speed box production with belt speeds reaching up to 600m/min, explained Friedheim.
Specified in the 90cm width, the Omega Alius folder gluer produces straight line, double wall and optional crash lock and four and six corner boxes with single-finger servo backfold system. This joins a brand-new Koenig & Bauer press.
Lisa Smith and Marcus Short, Qualvis’ joint managing directors, respectively said, ‘Not only have we partnered with Koenig & Bauer for our new press but we’ll also be installing the new Omega Alius 90 folder gluer coming direct from drupa. The first of the new model to market will offer high speeds and intelligent automatic setup. We were after a high (belt) speed machine for straight line work, the Omega Alius 90 fits this brief perfectly and so far, has exceeded expectations in both speed and technology.’
They added, ‘These purchases complement the recent investment strategy started two years ago, that includes not only machines, but technology and a solar energy investment to further reduce our carbon footprint. This completes phase 2 of our long-term investment programme and allows us to continue to focus on sustainable cutting-edge innovation and first-to-market solutions, which is our passion, whilst increasing capacity to allow for growth which has been exponential over recent years. Extremely exciting times.’
