A range of INGEDE 12-certified paper label and cardboard packaging solutions intended to support enhanced package recycling has been launched by Avery Dennison.

The company said the range offers good print and conversion for a wide variety of applications and industries. It includes rVellum, Coated Paper, Thermal Eco and Thermal Top facestock combinations for both decorative labelling and variable information/barcode labelling options. rVellum is made from 100% recycled materials.

Key to the development is a new adhesive technology that Avery Dennison says cleanly screens out from pulp during the recycling screening process, resulting in higher quality output for new cardboard and paper production.

‘Paper and cardboard design-for-recycling guidelines and protocols are still in development, and will likely change in the future,’ said Maarten Zubli, marketing manager for paper at Avery Dennison. ‘Still, we decided to certify our new paper label portfolio according to the INGEDE12 protocol. This is one of the most stringent protocols for label materials, testing product compliance against the recycling demands placed on the paper industry.’

The label materials have been independently tested using the INGEDE12 protocol, the company said, and have also passed the European Paper Recycling Council (EPRC) requirements for recyclability.
