Finnish label producer Nordic Label has experienced both flexible and sustainable benefits with Xeikon’s digital technology – which has opened new doors, particularly among smaller businesses with unique needs, says the company.

Delivering pressure-sensitive labels for food and beverage products to local and regional markets, including Sweden, the company blends traditional flexo printing with digital solutions to meet the changing demands of its customers. The Xeikon presses, originally sourced through Nordic Label’s partnership with the Asteria Group, complement its operations by specialising in short-run applications.

‘The main differentiator between flexo and digital is really the run length,’ explained Erik Björkenheim, deputy managing director at Nordic Label. ‘For shorter runs, the Xeikon presses offer flexibility, especially for projects that require variable data printing.’

With sustainability being a growing focus for Nordic Label – as it is for many in the packaging industry – its customers increasingly seek solutions that minimise environmental impact, and Nordic Label is proactive in addressing these demands.

‘Carbon footprint is a topic that many of our customers want to discuss,’ Björkenheim noted. The company leverages the advantages of Xeikon’s digital printing technology, which reduces waste through shorter setup times and eliminates the need for, solvents, and extensive washing. Additionally, the use of FDA approved dry toners from Xeikon ensures compliance with food safety regulations – an essential consideration in the food packaging sector, said Nordic Label.
