Elkem’s silicone division has introduced two new products to its SilcoLease range for release liners, which the company says marks a significant step towards circularity and innovation in the label industry.

Elkem launches recycled silicone products

The products, SilcoLease RE Poly 11362 and SilcoLease RE Poly 368, are both 100% recycled and solvent-free, offering the same high technical performance as their non-recycled counterparts. These products are the first commercial offerings from Elkem’s chemical recycling pilot unit in Saint Fons, France.

Both the 11362 and 368 boast a 70% lower carbon footprint compared to traditional silicones. Agnès Jolly, head of research and technology for silicone fluids at Elkem, emphasised that these products maintain non-stick properties and easy release of self-adhesive materials that customers rely on.

In early 2025, Elkem partnered with Kroenert, a German coating machine manufacturer, to validate the performance of its recycled silicone. The trials confirmed that the recycled products performed similarly to virgin silicones, even at high processing speeds, which Elkem stated demonstrates its reliability for sustainable applications.

Elkem’s new products are available for pre-commercial sales.
