Avery Dennison has opened its first RFID inlay and label production facility in India, marking a significant expansion of the company’s operations in South Asia. The new site, located in Pune, is part of Avery Dennison’s broader commitment to localising production under India’s “Make in India” initiative.
The Pune facility positions Avery Dennison as the first ARC-certified manufacturer of RFID inlays and labels in the country. It also serves as the launchpad for a new product developed specifically for Indian customers – the AD Cobra inlay. This RFID inlay is engineered to address the unique operational and environmental challenges faced by Indian businesses, enhancing integration and reliability in local supply chains.
“Local production will help us respond more efficiently to market needs, reduce lead times and better support our customers across industries,” said Saurabh Agarwal, vice president and general manager, South Asia at Avery Dennison. “This aligns with our ongoing efforts to contribute meaningfully to the Indian ecosystem.”
Kelvin Tan, director for APAC intelligent labels sales and business development, added: “India represents one of the fastest growing markets for RFID adoption. By localising production and innovation, we’re not just enhancing our responsiveness and speed-to-market – we’re also partnering more deeply with Indian brands.”
The company’s RFID solutions span UHF, HF and NFC frequencies and are widely used in sectors such as retail, logistics, pharmaceuticals and FMCG. Applications range from stock management to product authentication, with benefits including error reduction, improved visibility and faster restocking.
